Explore the Two Basic Ways to Volunteer at Children's Advocacy Center

At Children’s Advocacy Center, we offer two primary avenues for volunteering, each tailored to different skill sets and interests. One involves providing direct services to children, while the other focuses on administrative and/or development tasks.

For Volunteers Working Directly with Children:

  1. Complete an Application and Consent to a Background Check: Ensuring the safety and well-being of the children we serve is paramount, hence a background check is required.

  2. Participate in an Interview with our Outreach & Communications Manager: This interview helps us understand your motivations and ensures a good fit for both you and the organization.

  3. Attend the Stewards of Children/Darkness to Light Training: This training, offered monthly at no cost, equips volunteers with essential knowledge and skills to recognize and respond to child sexual abuse.

  4. Watch Specific Videos Covering Important Topics: Volunteers will be required to watch videos covering topics such as sexual abuse, sexual offenders, and shaken baby syndrome, further enhancing their understanding of the issues.

  5. Optional: Attend “Responding to Allegations of Child Maltreatment” Training: Offered twice annually by our Multidisciplinary Task Force (MDT), this two-day training is recommended for those seeking a deeper understanding of responding to child maltreatment allegations.

  6. Complete Additional On-Site Training: Depending on the specific position or project, volunteers may undergo additional training relevant to their role.

For Volunteers Involved in Administrative and/or Development Activities:

  1. Fill out an Application and Consent to a Background Check: Similar to direct service volunteers, administrative and development volunteers are required to undergo a background check.

  2. Have an Initial Interview with our Outreach & Communications Manager: This interview serves to align your skills and interests with available opportunities within the organization.

  3. Attend the Stewards of Children/Darkness to Light Training: Regardless of the role, all volunteers participate in this training to ensure a shared understanding of our mission and values.

  4. Meet with the Community Engagement Team: This meeting is an opportunity to explore specific administrative or development opportunities and possibilities that align with your skills and interests.

  5. Participate in Quarterly Training Sessions: These two-hour sessions, held quarterly, provide ongoing training and support for volunteers engaged in administrative and development activities.
